These are some the common questions we get about Bernese Mountain Dogs. You’ll find the answers to many others if you follow these links.
When we got Teddy, I asked my wife if they shed a lot. She lied !!
And I’ll offer this. Two or more is better than one.
Anyone interested in getting a Bernese Mountain Dog should reach out to their local breed club. In New England, the Bernese Mountain Club of Nashoba Valley should be your first stop. BMDCNV. The clubs maintain lists of breeders who adhere to a code of ethics and breed standards.
This is a very important question. Too big for this website. But check these out;

The long and short question is how do I have the best chance of getting a healthy puppy?
Ok, I contacted my local breed club and I’ve been put on a breeder’s wait list. why should I wait and why is one worth waiting for or for a cheaper price? A visit to bernergard is your next important step.
Bernergard is an online repository of breeder provided information. A BMD breeder should be testing and reporting health and other information to the database. BMDs generally have shorter lives and frequently occurring health problems. Test reporting and breed pedigrees combine to give you and breeders useful information on judging healthy breeding decisions. Like any good relationship it takes a lot of patience and a clear head to find what is best for you. It’s not bad to wait for a good chance of a healthy dog. It’s not good to fall for a championship lineage, you have little idea of the quality of health and quality of life they had. Finally, theres the cost. There is the money verses value equation only you can answer.
