George is is Caleigh’s dad. He’s a father of three daughters. George is a duty disabled retired police sergeant And the husband of a retired police officer. Since his retirement, he has been involved in a broad range of law enforcement organizations. The include founding a group for injured and retired police officers. For the last 16 years he’s served as vice-president of the Massachusetts Fraternal Order of Police Bay State Lodge 30. George also serves the state lodge as chairmen of the trustees and on the wellness committee.
Over the course of his career, he suffered from Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD). m
Many incidents shape the mental wellness of those that workin public safety. George like many others witnessed the aftermath of suicides in the community and among public safety officers. During the life of the group, they never lost a member.
Teddy became a therapy dog through Caleigh’s 4-H dog club. Mom and Dad had to become part of her team. She was only 11 at the time. Together they visited man6 communities providing therapy dog visits.
George would become certified in individual and group Critical Incident Stress Management and join K9 First Responders. He is an active participant in peer support and suicide prevention groups.
George has teamed with all three dogs in therapy dog and K9 First Responder work. His activities range from pre school visits to school shootings . He’s been locked down in state prisons and roamed hospital emergency wards.
George traveled to the US Capitol with each of the dogs. Teddy, went during the post January 6th assault on the Capitol lock down, when Officer Billy Evans was murdered He and Gromit served with other K9FR teams providing primary peer support on the Jan. 6th anniversary. Taro got the call to return to serve the USCP on the anniversary of Officer Evan’s death.Teddy, Gromit, Taro and the other K9FR teams legacy is the formation of a peer support unit with two canines.
George has created a number of memorial, suicide prevention, and mental health awareness tools for public safety personnel which can be found on www.mourningbands.org.
